Notes: Hollywood Tips/ Ten Ways 3-15-10 (cont.)

Terms:
  • Location: involves lighting, sceneary etc. It is best to avoid direct sunlight, and noises
  • External Microphone makes hearing the dialouge much easier
  • Manual Controls are better in most cases
  • Focus can be adjusted by zooming in first
  • A white object can help to adjust the white balance (zoom in to object, calibrate it, and zoom back out)

Checklist for shooting a video
  • Release Paper
  • A white object (white foam board)
  • tape
  • batteries
  • people to help out

Rules
  • Shoot for coverage. (same shot/scene, different angles)
  • Continuity (mans tie didn't change color, after he turned around)

Terms dealing with light
  • Depth of field: amount of distance between subject & camera (one part of shot is in focus while another part while others arent (draw attention to one part)
  • Auto-Exposure
  • F-Stop
  • Manually adjust light

Ten Ways to shoot a chair

shot attributes
shot sizes: Long shot, medium shot, close up, extreme close up

Focal Length:
wide angle: wider than the human eye, great depth of field, every thing is in focus
normal
Telephoto: magnifies subject, shallow depth of field, everything else is out of focus (except subject)
Close up: distorts features of face

Camera angle:
high-above subject looking down
Normal- eye level with subject
Low- looks up to subject
